Shipboard Electronic Technician IV - San Diego

The Electronic Technician IV works on a team supporting cabling, equipment, and C5ISR system installations. The Electronic Technician IV (ETIV) performs non-routine and complex assignments involving responsibility for planning and conducting a complete project of relatively limited scope or a portion of a larger and more diverse project. Applies advanced technical knowledge to solve unusually complex problems that typically cannot be solved solely by referencing manufacturers' manuals or similar documents. Examples of such problems include determining the location and density of circuitry, evaluating electromagnetic radiation, isolating malfunctions, and incorporating engineering changes.
Installation experience should include the moving and un-crating of equipment, the installation of electronic equipment, ducts, cableways, cables, high density cable connectors, assembling cable harnesses, soldering with low voltage soldering devices, coaxial connectors, waveguide connectors, fiber connectors, and assembling small mechanical parts per fabrication/assembly drawings. Work typically requires a detailed understanding of the interrelationships of circuits.
Supervisor or professional engineer outlines objectives, requirements, and design approaches; completed work is reviewed for technical adequacy and satisfaction of requirements. May train and be assisted by lower level technicians.
Performs combination of duties as:
-Selects and adapts plans, techniques, designs, or layouts.
-Contacts personnel in related activities to resolve problems and coordinate the work; reviews, analyzes, and integrates the technical work of others.
-Designs, develops, and constructs major units, devices, or equipment; conducts tests or experiments; analyzes results and redesigns or modifies equipment to improve performance; and reports results. From general guidelines and specifications (e.g., size or weight requirements),
-Develops designs for equipment without critical performance requirements which are difficult to satisfy such as engine parts, research instruments, or special purpose circuitry.
-Analyzes technical data to determine applicability to design problems; selects from several possible design layouts; calculates design data; and prepares layouts, detailed specifications, parts lists, estimates, procedures, etc.
-May check and analyze drawings or equipment to determine adequacy of drawings and design. Plans or assists in planning tests to evaluate equipment performance.
-Determines test requirements, equipment modification, and test procedures; conducts tests using all types of instruments; analyzes and evaluates test results, and prepares reports on findings and recommendation
The Electronic Technician IV exercises independent judgment in performing such tasks as making circuit analyses, calculating wave forms, and tracing relationships in signal flow. Applicant must be able to use complex test instruments such as high frequency pulse generators, frequency synthesizers, distortion analyzers, and complex computer control equipment. This worker analyzes system failures and other unusual system occurrences to isolate the source of the problem and determine whether the failure is caused by software, hardware, or other factors. Employees in this position maintain manual and/or computerized central office records, including detail records, traffic analysis records, cable records, line records, subscriber service records, and spare parts inventories.
Work is performed onboard U.S. Naval Ships and military installations requiring the ability to work in areas with drafts, noise, and temperature variation. Must be able to work in high heat spaces, climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders, work in kneeling position for layout of cable runs under false decking, lift up to 50 pounds with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 40 pounds for majority of shift while being in a standing, crouching, or walking position. Attention to safety critical.
-Position requires High School Diploma or equivalent and 8-10 years of experience in a related field.
-Applicant must be familiar with NAVSEA, standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of electronics repair, fabrication, and installation.
-Applicants also must be willing to work more than 40 hours work weeks.
-Applicants must successfully undergo a background investigation. Active secret security clearance desirable.
-This position supports a U.S. Government Contract whose terms require Serco to staff it only with U.S. Citizens
-Travel may be required. Applicant must be willing to travel to various work sites such as Virginia Beach VA, Bremerton WA, Everett WA, Pearl Harbor HI, Mayport FL & Yokosuka Japan.
-Mil-Spec multipin and fiber optic connector certification preferred.
