Engineering Technician V - Offutt AFB, NE

Job Description - The Engineering Technician V leads a technician team supporting copper and fiber optic cabling, equipment and C4ISR system installations in a new USAF Command and Control Facility.

- The team also installs and documents IT equipment, cable conveyance, antennas and supporting systems.

- Independently plans and accomplishes complete projects or tasks of broad scope and complexity.

- Serves as an expert in the various tasks assigned to the technician team in the course of the project.

- Complexity of assignments typically requires considerable creativity and judgment to devise approaches to accomplish work, resolve design and operational problems, and make decisions in situations where standard engineering methods, procedures, and techniques may not be applicable.

- Coordinates with supervisor or engineers for advice on unusual or controversial problems or policy matters; completed work is reviewed for compliance with overall project objectives.

- May supervise, train and be assisted by lower level technicians. Performs, at this level, one or a combination of such typical duties as:

- Prepares work plans for the lower level technicians and oversees/assists in the installation of communications racks, supporting systems, overhead/under-floor cabling and conveyance, patch cables, command and control equipment and other items as required by the project.

- Prepares designs and specifications for various complex equipment or systems

- Plans approach to solve design problems; conceives and recommends new design techniques; resolves design problems with contract personnel, and assures compatibility of design with other parts of the system.

- Designs and coordinates test set ups and experiments to prove or disprove the feasibility of preliminary design; uses untried and untested measurement techniques; improves the performance of the equipment; produces reports and recommendations for the customer.

- May advise equipment users on redesign to solve unique operational deficiencies.

- Plans approach and conducts various experiments to develop equipment or systems characterized by (a) difficult performance requirements because of conflicting attributes such as versatility, size, and ease of operation; or (b) unusual combination of techniques or components.

- Arranges for fabrication of pilot models and determines test procedures and design of special test equipment.

- Performs Quality inspections on work performed by their team or other Serco teams

- May require shift work.
Required Skills - This position supports a U.S. Government Contract whose terms require Serco to staff it only with U.S. Citizens. - Applicants must have Active Secret or higher level security clearance; Top Secret preferred. - Applicants must successfully complete background investigation and drug screening - Applicants must have a valid driver’s license - Requires High School diploma and 10+ years of experience. - Preference given to candidates with current BICSI ITS Technician certification (or equivalent) and CPR certificate

We support major transformation initiatives to deliver total situational awareness from the command center to the warfighter on the front line.
