Submarine Electronics Technician IV - Chesapeake, VA

Job Description Applicant performs a variety of tasks including:
--Exercising independent judgment in performing such tasks as making circuit analyses, calculating wave forms, and tracing relationships in signal flow
--Able to use complex test instruments such as high frequency pulse generators, frequency synthesizers, distortion analyzers, and complex computer control equipment
--Analysis of system failures and other unusual system occurrences to isolate the source of the problem and determine whether the failure is caused by software, hardware, or other factors
--Maintain manual and/or computerized central office records, including detail records, traffic analysis records, cable records, line records, subscriber service records, and spare parts inventories
--Run small shore and ship/submarine installations
--Provide technical guidance and supervision to lower level technicians

Applicants may be certified in “Multi-pin” Connectors IAW MIL-STD-20035A (SA), MIL-STD-2042B Fiber Optic, and be proficient NAVSEA Standards Items to include 009-22 & 009-73. Applicants must have a general understanding of NAVSEA Manual S0400-AD-URM-010/TUM Rev 06 (Tag Out Users). They must be proficient in NAVSEA WAF (Work Authorization Forms) procedures. Work may be reviewed by supervisor for general compliance with accepted practices. Applicants must be computer literate.

Employees must be able to:
--Work in high heat spaces
--Climb shipyard dry dock stairs and climb up and down ladders and
--Crawl through hatches to access all areas of the ship
--Work in the kneeing position and layout of cable runs that are under false decking.
--Carry 50lbs. The employee can be lifting 25lbs to 50lbs 5 – 10% of the day, carrying 10 to 40lbs throughout the ship 25 to 50% of the day or pushing and pulling while running cable or installing equipment up to 80% of the day.
--Be on their feet in a standing, crouching or walking position up to 90% of the day

This work is physically demanding and is performed in an industrial environment with trip hazards and requires good mobility.
Required Skills Requires a High School diploma and 8-10 years REQUIREMENTS
  • Position requires one of the following: Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Technology, Information Technology, Class A military school in electronics or communications, IT specialist title is US military, four (4) year electronics apprentice program, two (2) year contractor apprenticeship that included at least six months of formal classroom training that addressed electrical circuit theory, electromagnetic radiation, and other disciplines related to C4ISR installations. And eight (8) years of practical experience to include: Electronics Repair, Maintenance, Installation and Checkout. Two (2) years of experience, to include: supervision, and shop practices. Three (3) years practical experience, to include: electronics repair and installation. Six (6) years of experience with shipboard electronics installations to include: reading, interpreting and working from blueprints, drawings, manuals, handbooks and technical specifications; electronics equipment installation including the installation of electronic equipment, ducts, cableways, fiber cables, high density cable connectors, RF cable connectors, waveguides and antennas; supervising the installation activities on installation teams including sub-contractor teams; managing installation efforts aboard US Navy afloat platforms. Knowledge of proper standards of conduct and shipboard etiquette.
  • Applicant must be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of electronics repair, fabrication, and installation
  • Applicants must be able to travel to various work sites such as San Diego, CA, Everett WA, Pearl Harbor HI, Mayport FL, Yokosuka Japan & Portsmouth New Hampshire
  • Applicants must be available to work second or thirds shift as needed and able to work more than 40 hours per week
  • Applicants must successfully undergo a background investigation and pre-employment drug screen
