Job Description The standards for this category are a high school diploma or its equivalent with 4 or more years of experience in the field or in a related area. Applicant may have to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty, or military training may apply. Applicant must be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of electronics repair, fabrication, and installation. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Mil-Spec multipin and fiber optic connector certification preferred.
Applicant performs a variety of tasks to include the fabrication and assembly of various electromechanical and electronic assemblies. Installation experience should include the moving and un-crating of equipment, the installation of electronic equipment, ducts, cableways, cables, high density cable connectors, assembling cable harnesses, soldering with low voltage soldering devices, coaxial connectors, and assembling small mechanical parts per fabrication/assembly drawings. Receives technical guidance, as required, from supervisor or higher level technician, and work is reviewed for compliance with accepted practices. Applicant may provide some technical guidance to lower level employees.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed onboard U.S. Naval Ships and military installations in an area that is somewhat uncomfortable due to drafts, noise, temperature variation and the like and with equipment where carelessness would probably result in minor cuts, bruises, muscle strains, serious injury, or death. Employees must be able to carry 50lbs, work in high heat spaces and climb shipyard dry dock stairs, and be able to go up and down ladders and crawl through hatches to access all areas of the ship. They must be able work in the kneeing position and layout of cable runs that are under false decking. The employee can be lifting 25lbs to 50lbs 5 – 10% of the day, carrying 10 to 40lbs throughout the ship 25 to 50% of the day or pushing and pulling while running cable or installing equipment up to 80% of the day. The employee will be on their feet in a standing, crouching or walking position up to 90% of the day. This work is physically demanding and is performed in an industrial environment with trip hazards and requires good mobility.
Applicant must be willing to travel to various work sites such as Virginia Beach VA, Bremerton WA, Everett WA, Pearl Harbor HI, Mayport FL & Yokosuka Japan. Applicant must be willing to work second or thirds shift as needed. Applicants also must be willing to work more than 40 hours work weeks
