1.4.1. Use ITS software to control and monitor fie
ld devices such as CCTV cameras, DMS, traffic detectors, LCS and any other te chnology related to devices that may be implemented as part of the ITS.
1.4.2 . Monitor video images for the detection and verification of accidents, debris, abandoned or disabled vehicles, and hazardous or non-hazardous spills.
1.4.3 . Use ITS software to log potential and confirmed incidents, construction and m aintenance closures.
1.4.4. Monitor ITS software system-generated response pl ans, and accept or manually override them as necessary.
1.4.5. Possess Englis h-language writing skills necessary to compose clear and concise sentences that include all pertinent information without spelling or grammatical errors.
1. 4.6. Use radio, telephone, and e-mail to communicate with TxDOT personnel state wi
de, including maintenance and construction personnel, ITS software technici ans, TxDOT management, Department of Public Safety, and Federal Highway Adminis trat
ion as appropriate, regarding incidents, traffic, road, maintenance and c onstruction activity, and related weather conditions.
1.4.7. Dispatch and com municate with Safety Service Patrol (SSP) incident management personnel via rad io, telephone, or computer aided dispatch using standard protocol to the locati ons of road hazards and accidents, providing clear directions to the location a nd an
accurate description of an incident as advised by citizens, public safet y entities, or department personnel.
1.4.8. Provide information or assistance to motorists, TxDOT personnel, or other agencies on traffic and road condition s; direct calls to appropriate personnel in traffic operations or take action a s necessary.
1.4.9. Perform record keeping, logging of required information, equipment checks, data gathering, and updating of manuals and contact lists.
1.4.10. Update messages on ATIS, once activated.
1.4.11. Answer all after-hou r calls for the TxDOT Austin District, documenting communication and dispatchin g the n
1.4.12. Perform all duties with the highest leve l of customer service.
1.4.13. Complete required training and semi-annual per formanceevaluations.
1.4.14. Be prepared to work additional hours or shifts i n support of special events such as, but not limited to, Presidential visits, p olitical rally’s, parades, Austin Triathlon, Marathon and Half Marathon (Feb), South by
Southwest (Mar), Rodeo Austin (Mar), Austin Film Festival (May/Jun), Republic
of Texas (ROT) Biker Rally (Jun), University of Texas home football games (Fall), Formula One races, and Austin City Limits (Sep/Oct).
1.4.15. Us e radio, telephone, and e-mails to communicate with law enforcement, EMS, fire department, or towing services to provide clear and accurate information regard ing inciden
ts and the response required.
1.4.16. Ensure that all radio comm unications are in compliance with TxDOT and FCC radio protocol using the proper 10-codes.
1.5. All personnel shall:
1.5.1. Be fluent in English with th e ability to
receive, give and understand written and oral instructions.
Not e: Fluent Spanish with the ability to receive, give, and understand written and oral instructions is a preferred additional skill.
1.5.2. Not use personal m ulti-media orcommunication devices (i.e., portable radios, cell phones, CD play ers, MP3 players) while performing services for TxDOT unless furnished by the v endor to facilitate communication with TxDOT or the vendor.
Responsible for monitoring systems and dispatching appropriate resources to detected and/o r reported incidents; including coordination of safety personnel and location a ssistance tofirst responders. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and p rocedures within a particular field. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Works undergeneral supervision.
