Job Description 1.4. The Operators shall:

1.4.1. Use ITS software to control and monitor fie

ld devices such as CCTV cameras, DMS, traffic detectors, LCS and any other technology related to devices that may be implemented as part of the ITS.
1.4 .2. Monitor video images for the detection and verification of accidents, debri s, abandoned or disabled vehicles, and hazardous or non-hazardous spills.
1.4 .3
. Use ITS software to log potential and confirmed incidents, construction a nd maintenance closures.
1.4.4. Monitor ITS software system-generated respons e plans, and accept or manually override them as necessary.
1.4.5. Possess En glish-language writing skills necessary to compose clear and concise sentences that include all pertinent information without spelling or grammatical errors.

4.6. Use radio, telephone, and e-mail to communicate with TxDOT personnel state
wi
de, including maintenance and construction personnel, ITS software technicians, TxDOT management, Department of Public Safety, and Federal Highway Administrat
ion as appropriate, regarding incidents, traffic, road, maintenan ce and construction activity, and related weather conditions.
1.4.7. Dispatch and communicate with Safety Service Patrol (SSP) incident management personnel via radio, telephone, or computer aided dispatch using standard protocol to th e locations of road hazards and accidents, providing clear directions to the lo cation and an
accurate description of an incident as advised by citizens, publ ic safety entities, or department personnel.
1.4.8. Provide information or as sistance to motorists, TxDOT personnel, or other agencies on traffic and road c ondition
s; direct calls to appropriate personnel in traffic operations or tak e action as necessary.
1.4.9. Perform record keeping, logging of required inf ormation,equipment checks, data gathering, and updating of manuals and contact lists.
1.4.10. Update messages on ATIS, once activated.
1.4.11. Answer all after-hou
r calls for the TxDOT Austin District, documenting communication and dispatching the n
ecessary personnel.
1.4.12. Perform all duties with the h ighest level of customer service.
1.4.13. Complete required training and semi -annual performanceevaluations.
1.4.14. Be prepared to work additional hours or shifts in support of special events such as, but not limited to, Presidentia l visits, political rally’s, parades, Austin Triathlon, Marathon and Half Marat hon (Feb),South by
Southwest (Mar), Rodeo Austin (Mar), Austin Film Festival (May/Jun), Republic
of Texas (ROT) Biker Rally (Jun), University of Texas home football
games (Fall), Formula One races, and Austin City Limits (Sep/Oct).

1.4.15. Use radio, telephone, and e-mails to communicate with law enforcement, EMS, firedepartment, or towing services to provide clear and accurate informat ion regarding inciden
ts and the response required.
1.4.16. Ensure that all radio communications are in compliance with TxDOT and FCC radio protocol using the proper 10-codes.

1.5. All personnel shall:
1.5.1. Be fluent in Engli sh with th
e ability to
receive, give and understand written and oral instruc tions.
Note: Fluent Spanish with the ability to receive, give, and understand written and oral instructions is a preferred additional skill.
1.5.2. Not us e personal m
ulti-media orcommunication devices (i.e., portable radios, cell p hones, CD players, MP3 players) while performing services for TxDOT unless furn ished by the vendor to facilitate communication with TxDOT or the vendor.


Responsible for monitoring systems and dispatching appropriate resources to detected and/o
r reported incidents; including coordination of safety personne l and location assistance tofirst responders. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on experience and j udgment to planand accomplish goals. A certain degree of creativity and latitud e is expected.Works undergeneral supervision.
Required Skills Requires a High School diploma and 0-2 years of experience.
